Learner profile and Pongal..
What do they have in common! Don’t say that it’s only ‘p’, ‘o’
and ‘l’. I feel there is something more.
I always wait for this time of the year to meet my family at
my native place. This year somehow I have become more conscious of what the
festival is about and couldn’t help but connecting it to the learner profile
which I value as an IB trained teacher.
Let me put first things first. I need to be principled to check for the exact dates
of vacation in order to book tickets in advance. My thinking skills will come handy while choosing the right travels
within the allotted budget. Sometimes railways, now recently even roadways
declared me as a risk taker by putting me on RAC or waiting list. On the day of travel how I am boarding the bus/train
without missing it , that too with the heavily packed luggage calls for a test for my self-management skills. Here comes a
true test for my tolerance towards
the movie(horrible, most of the times) they show in the bus and towards the snoring
by co passengers. Upon reaching the destination, I need to be an inquirer to ask for the right dropping
point.
Talking to the relatives, especially elders carefully
recalling their ailments isn’t an easy task without proper communication skills. Further, any special medicines/gadgets/snacks
I take for elderly shows how reflective and
caring I am. My on line research
skills sometimes dump me while browsing for the gifts to younger lot.
My poor creativity
proves that I am not knowledgeable when
it comes to chalking down an elaborate and colorful rangoli. I try to cover it
by appreciating those who already mastered
that art.
Is Pongal complete without sweet delicacies of various
textures and tastes? Coming to open-mindedness, nobody can beat me
when it’s about tasting an array of sweets and namkeens. Finally I gather all my senses to show
emotional balance while saying goodbye
to my parents.
